We have a team of people in Bridge City working on disaster relief in the wake of Hurricane Ike.  Below is an update from Tommy Wilson, an organizer of the trip and one of our college interns.

ikereliefThe day went great  in Bridge City. We went to Liberty Baptist Church to work on their sanctuary and class rooms. We are putting up new sheet rock and taping and floating the walls. The whole team really jumped in and got to work quickly. We only had one little injury so far, and she is doing fine. Our team is made up of 25 college students and 5  men; the unity in the team is strong. We are hoping to be done with the church by Tuesday.

I thank you for your prayers and support for this trip and ask that you continue to be in prayer for us. We have three more days of labor and GREAT opportunities to share Christ with our words and actions. We look forward to these days because we know that our days are few here, and we want to make every opportunity count.

Please be in prayer for:

  • Continued opportunities to share Christ. We are here with hammers and drills, but our hearts are to share Christ in words and deeds.
  • Unity of our team and safety. We are not having any problems, but as days draw on and people get tired there is more chance for disunity and hurt people.
  • Pray for Nehemiah’s Vision, the Mission Organization we are working with. They have 5 other teams here right now and are busy. Pray that the volunteers continue to come and that God continue to use them as a light in this dark place.

I will continue to share what is going on down here and send pictures of the day. Thanks again for all the prayers; they are being heard by God, and we are seeing them being answered here.
