This Summer, we will most likely bring all the students into one LIFE Group and perhaps with some other groups from Temple Bible Church. It looks like our students are developing a sense of “belonging” here at FBC and the LIFE Groups have been a large part of that.

Please continue to pray for our college ministry, including LIFE Groups.

As followers of Christ, we are all called to have one love in life that is above all else – God. Jesus himself stated that the greatest commandment was to “love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all you mind” (Matthew 22:37).  This love will then lead you immediately into the second great commandment to love your neighbor as yourself.

The great preacher Charles Spurgeon once said, “Surely as we meditate on the LOVE of the Lord, our hearts BURN within us and we long to love him more.”

With this in mind, you are invited to join First Baptist Belton on March 6-7 from 8-11 p.m. for a night of intense worship, Bible study, and fellowship as we encounter God in a very deep and real way.

Let us gather together as a community and encounter the living, loving God, so that we might burn with love.

“Did not our hearts burn with in us…” –Luke 24:32

That’s the question I long for all of us to be asking.  Burning hearts will happen when we encounter God.  That’s the natural progression of such an encounter – something burns.  God has chosen to plant His presence inside all those who trust Him as Lord.  This is HUGE!  This is intense!  This is amazing grace!

Do you feel that way?  I pray you consider coming to BURN:  October 6-7, 8-11 p.m. in the worship center.  Following BURN, the college ministry is launching LIFE Groups.  We will have 2 groups on Monday, 1 group on Tuesday and 2 groups on Thursday evenings.  Stay tuned for more information – but for now, pray about getting connected with us.

Before you panic, don’t worry; you won’t be asked to pay for their classes. How about having them over for a home cooked meal or taking them out to one of the many fine dining establishments in the area… anything to give them a break from dining hall food or their roommate’s cooking! Sometimes they might just want a place to get away from campus to relax, do some laundry or maybe even study! Most importantly, just being someone they can talk to about things that are going on in their lives, whether it’s their classes, fellow classmates, family, or their spiritual life. How involved you get is between you and your adopted student.

If you’re interested in adopting a college student or want more information, contact Jeff Wetherbee or Nita Barnett. You can also visit the table in the foyer on Sunday. We’ve got a lot of college students who are looking for families.

As you explore the scriptures, you will find that the great pillars of faith all have one thing in common; they encountered God. Whether is was through a burning bush, Passover, a whisper, a prophet, a blinding light, or Christ himself, it was an encounter with God.

We invite you to join the college department October 6-7 from 8-11 p.m. for such an encounter. It will be a night of worship and teaching, where you will have an opportunity to worship God through song, prayer, art, fasting, or other various forms of worship. So please join us as we earnestly seek to encounter God as a community of believers.  Everyone is invited – you need not be college-aged to attend.

In fact, why not start now? Pray and fast that God will work deeply in the hearts of all those who come, and that they will leave saying, “Did not our hearts burn within us…” Luke 24:32.

If your answer is yes, or even maybe, then we’ve got good news for you. Life at FBC Belton is hosting a Dodgeball Tournament this September for every college student or college-aged student in the area. The tournament will be Sunday, September 28th, from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Each team has enough room for 6 players, but there must be at least one guy and one girl on every team. Registration forms are due by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, September 24th. (Get your registration form here).  Also, there will be a free agent list to sign up if you can’t get a team together, so email your name, number, and all prior dodgeball experience to  to sign up. Each team member of the first place team will win a $25 Wal-Mart gift card. Each team member of the second place team will win a $15 Wal-Mart gift card.

Both teams felt really good about themselves until they played the much older youth/college workers. That team consisted of the Hollingsworths, Covington, Leech, Mckee, Irvine, and Goings. Let’s just say humility came pretty quickly for those college students!

All in all, from 7th grade to “old man Leech” – we had a blast! We’ll do it again sometime. I think I hear a few 7th graders plotting revenge as I type this!

We’ll pit teams of six college students against teams of six students from the youth group and see whose dodge ball skills reign supreme. There’s no cost to sign-up, and there may even be some sweet prizes awaiting the winning team.
