fpFirst Baptist Belton will be hosting Family Promise from May 10-17, 2009. Family Promise is a nonprofit organization committed to helping low-income families achieve lasting independence.

The problem of poverty is complex. It won’t yield to a simple solution or a quick fix. It requires an integrated approach that begins with meeting immediate needs but reaches much further to help people achieve independence and to alleviate the root causes of poverty.

In Bell County, Family Promise provides a number of services, including:

  • fp2a shelter that allows families to stay together
  • providing a permanent address and phone number to families
  • nutritious meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner)
  • laundry and shower facilities
  • subsidized childcare
  • and much more

There are numerous ways for your to give your time, your talents and your support to Family Promise at First Baptist Belton. We host families in our church for seven nights at a time and we rotate with other area churches.  We provide housing for families every 11 weeks.   Some of the ways that you can serve are:

  • preparing rooms for Family promise or helping reset rooms for Sunday morning
  • preparing an evening meal for the families residing in our church
  • visiting for an hour to play with the children or chat with the adults
  • spending the night at the church with the families residing here
  • praying for the families involved in this program

While there are countless other ways that you can help, these are a few of the regular ongoing needs.  If you are interested in serving in this vital ministry, contact Marketa Cross at (254) 982-4925.
